Our Fotona SmoothEye treatment uses laser dentistry for periocular resurfacing, a nonsurgical procedure that uses heat to tighten the skin around your eyes. This helps minimize wrinkles and bags to give you a fresher, more youthful appearance. It is a noninvasive treatment, resulting in minimal pain and more comfort for the patient. You may feel a prickly sensation or slight heat during the procedure, though most find it very bearable once a topical anesthetic is applied to the area.
The laser will penetrate the deeper layers of skin, contracting the collagen to simulate fibroblast activity. Collagen makes up about 30% of your body’s protein, providing strength, support and structure to your muscles, bones and skin. However, your body produces less collagen as you grow older, causing your skin to become looser. A fibroblast is a type of cell that secretes collagen, contributing to the formation of tissue like skin and muscles. This laser will contract the collagen so that your skin will tighten and reduce the appearance of loose bags and wrinkles.
The area around your eyes may appear red for 24 to 48 hours, while some cases may also result in mild swelling. We recommend avoiding any exposure to heat for the first 48 hours and to wear sun protection at all times during this period. After the second day, the area may feel dry, resulting in flaking that can last for up to a week.
