The Perfect Alternative to Traditional Braces | Invisalign® at Parkway Dental Center

Your smile is healthier and more attractive when your teeth are correctly aligned. Perhaps you had always wanted a straighter smile but did not have access to orthodontics when you were younger. Thankfully, it is never too late to get a straighter smile, and one of the options available is Invisalign®.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign treatment involves wearing a series of customized clear aligners designed to straighten your teeth. These aligners are computer-designed, based on digital scans of your smile. You will wear each set of aligners for about two weeks to slowly move your teeth into the proper positions.

What Can Invisalign Correct?

Invisalign clear braces can correct all the same issues as traditional metal braces. Below are some common orthodontic problems easily fixed by aligners:

  • Gaps – large spaces between teeth can occur because of abnormal jaw growth or missing teeth.
  • Crossbite – upper teeth bite down on the inside of the lower teeth, leading to uneven wear and bone erosion.
  • Overbite – upper teeth project further than lower teeth, often followed by jaw pain and TMJ disorder.
  • Underbite – the direct opposite of an overbite. The lower teeth project further out than the upper teeth creating jaw pain and TMD.
  • Overcrowding – there needs to be more space for teeth; they tend to overlap, making it difficult to keep clean. With overcrowding comes the buildup of plaque and increased chances of gum disease.

What Should I Expect From the Treatment Plan?

In your initial consultation, we devise a treatment plan. 3D computer imaging helps doctors view the jaw from every angle and even foresee your tooth movement on the monitor. This technology anticipates how the aligner system will change facial aesthetics after treatment.

Once the planning consultation is complete, a unique set of aligners is made to fit your teeth perfectly. The length of treatment time is different for each case. Still, the total number of aligners required is usually between 20 and 29 sets.

A Few Things to Remember

Follow your dentist’s directions and wear your aligners for 20-22 hours daily. Do this to avoid problems and lengthen the overall treatment time. Removing the aligners when consuming food or drink is essential to avoid staining and prevent debris from getting trapped between the trays and the teeth, leading to tooth decay.

You can expect to feel soreness for the first few days after each new tray. This light ache is common and good news as it proves that your teeth are already starting to move into their correct positions. On average, new trays are given to you every two weeks.

How Do I Care For My Aligners?

Clean your aligners twice daily by brushing them as you do your teeth. Brushing with a soft-bristled toothbrush and warm water takes only a few minutes. Once the aligners are removed, please rinse them thoroughly to reduce harmful bacteria. Only use lukewarm water to rinse, as extreme temperatures can warp the plastic.

Why Choose Invisalign Over Other Products?

Many clear aligner treatment options exist, but Invisalign is the gold standard. The Invisalign process has treated 9 million smiles and is still counting! It is the most trusted aligner brand.

The Invisalign system is perfect for adults who want to maintain a professional appearance at work or look their best in social settings without brackets and wires. Invisalign helps keep the attention on you and not on your dental work. They are also highly comfortable to wear, and you may even forget that you have them in. Since you remove them for meals, your diet has no restrictions.

Oral hygiene does not change. Brushing and flossing are much easier than with other orthodontic treatments. The trays are easy to clean with a nonabrasive toothpaste or a solution provided by our dentists. Invisalign treatments also require fewer visits to the dentist’s office.
